CONFIDENCE HACKS FOR STUDENTS!

SELF-CONFIDENCE IS THE FIRST REQUISITE TO GREAT UNDERTAKINGS. – SAMUEL JOHNSON

Self-confidence is the most attractive quality anyone can have. Someone else will only like you when you like yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect anyone else to believe in you?

Nobody likes to be side-lined during a conversation, or not able to speak or stand for what they believe in. Nobody wants to live in constant self-doubt or get shaky while going in public.

Self-confidence can take you places and make you reach heights. It is one quality that is very important and needed, not only in professional world but in any phase of life.

This is common problem faced by school students, so here are some hacks that can be used to gain self-confidence and face the world.

  1. TRY A QUICK FIX (FOR INSTANT CONFIDENCE):

Listening to loud bass music, shouting out and deep breathing are few things that can give you an instant confidence boost. Suppose you have to speak in front of a whole class or on stage, these few tricks can help you take the nervousness away.

Second thing that can help is ‘picturing your success’ before performing the task. Visualize yourself giving a successful speech before going on the stage and affirm yourself that you’ll do well.

  1. YOUR WORDS ARE PROPHECY:

Interesting fact- your mind believes what you say. Whether you say positive or negative, your mind believes what you tell yourself. Whether you say you are a loser, you can’t do anything or nothing good is going to happen with you, that’s what will happen.

It is because mind will believe and store these words in sub-conscious, and later on your mind is going to work with this stored sub-conscious information resulting what you thought.

While, if you tell your brain that certain task is easy, you can do it well and only good is going to happen, so will happen. Your sub-conscious is very powerful and your own words that you tell yourself is what can make or break your own self-confidence.

  1. BE FLAWSOME:

Nobody in this whole world is perfect, everyone has some flaws and some strengths. Best thing that one can do is accept their flaws and love themselves with them.

Everyone has their own insecurities which leads to self-doubt and shatter one’s confidence. But, once you accept them and learn to live with them, they won’t affect you.

There are many famous personalities like Kajol, Priyanka Chopra, and many others who faced comments for their dark skin. Many like Vidya Balan and Sonakshi Sinha faced negative comments for being healthier than other actresses. But, they accepted their flaws and still won people’s hearts through their work. Those comments or their flaws did not hinder their confidence to showcase their talent to the world.

  1. IF YOU DON’T LIKE HOW THINGS ARE, CHANGE IT:

You are the sailor of your own ship and master of your own fate. If you don’t like something in your life, take the charge and work for it. If you are not happy with your health, work on it. Start working out or join a gym. If you are not satisfied with a skill, join a class to develop it. Acceptance is only for the permanent factors that can’t be changed, but if you want to improve something, take a step and work for it.

  1. LEVERAGE YOUR STRENGTHS:

Everyone has some quality and strength. Embrace it, highlight it and work on it and make it your forte. When you know you a certain quality, showcasing that can help you gain confidence as you know you’re good at it. Don’t hesitate to tell the world about, as other people will appreciate it, it’ll help you increase your self-esteem.

  1. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF:

As it is said, Rome was not built in a day. Nobody achieves a very large permanent success in just one shot. There are many failures and hit and trials done before that one that actually made it big.

J.k Rowling did not publish whole Harry Potter series in one go, she went to numerous different publishers and faced rejections, before the one who actually gave her a chance.

Amitabh Bachchan was rejected for being an RJ and was told that his voice was not good and now, everyone mimics him.

Rejection does not mean you are not good enough, only that you need to work more on it. Don’t let rejection kill your confidence, just accept that it’s okay to fail.

  1. TAKING ON THE FEAR:

Try on the things that scare you. Suppose you are afraid to perform on stage or swim or anything else, go and do that thing. It will be difficult the first time and few other times, but you will get better with time. Nobody is born a professional, everyone began as a beginner and got better with experience.

Suppose if you have a favourite YouTuber E.g.: Lily Singh (iiSuperWomanii), watch her initial videos when she began on YouTube and quality of her videos now, you’ll see a huge difference in her tone and confidence. So, confidence build up as you experience, just take the first step and give it a shot.

  1. DRESSING SENSE:

Looks matter. How you present yourself and how you look effect your confidence a lot. This doesn’t mean you need to be extremely handsome or beautiful like actors, but being presentable is the key. Be neat and tidy, wear subtle clothes and be in little touch with fashion. When you look good and feel comfortable it increases your confidence a lot.

  1. BODY LANGUAGE:

Being slouchy, hung down neck and low voice are signs of low confidence. Stand straight, keep your chin high and have a firm handshake. Your body language plays a vital role in your confidence. Keep you body firm, you can hold something in your hand to support you.

  1. ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS:

Don’t shy away and just say “Thank You” when someone compliments you. Usually under-confident people tend to reply, ‘oh no, it’s an old outfit’ etc when someone compliments them, avoid these kinds of statements and thank the person for complimenting you or you can even compliment them.

  1. APPRECIATE YOURSELF:

Give yourself credit for all the things you have done or do well. For all the efforts you put or things that you have achieved. Tell yourself that you did well, you tried well and treat yourself a bit to keep the effort going.

  1. FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT:

As everything takes time, similarly confidence also builds up gradually, just show that you are confident, think that you are, and gradually you will be. As mentioned above, our sub-conscious is very powerful, so make yourself adapt the thing that you want to develop, and it will in some time.

Remember, “Confidence is not ‘they will like me’, confidence is ‘I’ll be fine if they don’t”. Be your best, do well in your own eyes, accept yourself, work for yourself and rest of the world will follow.

All the best !
